Closes #1373

This notebook demonstrates the use of azimuthal averaging for an idealized 2D field and a more complex 3D dataset. In the idealized case, range rings are drawn to help visualize the azimuthal averaging operation.

not sure how to get holoviews plots to show up/remain interactive when sharing my notebook. I see that the holoviews plots are also missing for https://github.com/UXARRAY/uxarray/blob/main/docs/user-guide/zonal-average.ipynb, but they do show up at https://uxarray.readthedocs.io/en/latest/user-guide/zonal-average.html

Notebooks as they are present in the GitHub repo do not have their plots show since they are not rendered, but once your pull request is merged, your notebook will be rendered as a readthedocs page with all of its plots showing up in our docs website.

Thanks for contributing this, @jpan84 ! The notebook looks great overall! There are a few things:

  • There were errors with code styling, mesh file access, etc., but I've fixed them now.
  • I've added the notebook to our user-gallery toctree, so it will show up in our docs once merged.
  • One thing remaining for your attention is the use of glade-hosted data for the second part of the notebook.
    • When it comes to auto-rendering of the notebook, those glade data sets are not accessible online, hence it will lead the execution of the related code in the notebook to fail (see for reference: https://uxarray--1439.org.readthedocs.build/en/1439/user-guide/azimuthal-average.html).
    • Also, in general, it'd be great to keep notebooks self-contained with small datasets accessed through our test folder or files accessible online.
    • Is there an alternative dataset for you to use for that section?
