I wonder, is it worth to initialize the file lazily?

And I think it would be easier to review if apply this change to main, and add a deprecation on to of it in a separate PR. |

Ah I can do it as well. I just didn't want an un-necessary commit in main but I can rebase it on main and follow-up with the other PR that adds the deprecation |

Since the rebase went bad on my side, I'll just recreate that PR against main: #145071. |
